Alternative Provision Learning

Alternative Provision Learning (APL)

Alternative Provision Learning (APL) enables students to engage with learning and complete work in a nurturing and supportive environment. APL enables students to close attainment gaps with the support of our teachers and achieve success in the subjects that they continue to follow.

Students will only be referred to APL following Senior Leadership approval. Any member of staff can make a recommendation to the relevant Progress Leader. The Progress Leader will discuss the provision and timescale with parents and conduct appropriate chronological reviews. APL is an additional support mechanism for students, it is not a punishment.

Late starters to the academy will attend APL temporarily. Students complete initial assessments in Maths, English and Science. The outcomes of these assessments supports successful integration and ensures that students are enrolled in the groups and sets that are appropriate to their ability. This approach works particularly well with students where English is an additional language (EAL).
